Those who do not know, let us tell you that “Kavach” is a protection system created by the railways. Which has been created to prevent rail accidents. Till now there has been no response from the railways regarding “Kavach”. So let’s know how “Kavach” works.
What is “Armor”
Railways started working on “Kavach” in 2012 to prevent rail accidents. “Kavach” is an automatic train protection system. It has only one job, and that is to prevent rail accidents. Railways has developed this system with the help of Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO). Earlier it was named Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS). The first trial of “Kavach” started in 2016. Now its installation is being done by the Railways in a phased manner. Currently “Kavach” has been installed on more than 1,500 kilometers of track. The government plans to cover it up to 34,000 kilometers.
How does “Armor” work?
The “Kavach” system gets activated as soon as the loco pilot breaks the signal. After which the system alerts the loco pilot and takes control of the train’s brakes. Apart from this, Radio Frequency Identification is installed on tracks, station yards and signals to identify the tracks and find out the direction of the train. When the system is activated, all trains within 5 km stop so that the train on the adjacent track can pass safely.
